EU’s Border Management Programme in Central Asia Refurbishes Training Centre of State Border Service Ashgabat, 18 March 2009 – A refurbished building of the Training Centre of the State Border Service of Turkmenistan has been handed over to the Government of Turkmenistan. To reinforce training capacity in Turkmenistan, the EU Border Management Programme in Central Asia (BOMCA) organised and funded renovation works at the Second Building of the Training Centre of the State Border Service of Turkmenistan. The Training Centre has also been equipped with computers and electronic equipment; it received furniture and stationery supplies. The total cost of refurbishment works and equipment provided is over USD 123,000. Representatives of the State Coordination Commission on Drug Abuse under the Cabinet of Ministers and the State Border Service of Turkmenistan were present at the handover ceremony. Representatives of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Europa House, European Commission of the European Union, OSCE, United Nations Office for Drugs and Crime, as well as Embassies of the United Kingdom, Germany, France, the USA and Romania were also invited to attend the inauguration. Earlier in 2007 under its training component the BOMCA Programme allocated about USD 300,000 to construct Veterinary Unit and refurbished the First building of the Training Centre of the State Border Service of Turkmenistan. The overall objective of BOMCA is to facilitate the licit flow of persons and goods over Central Asian borders and to increase security in Central Asia.
