Equipment Handed Over to Ministry of Health of Turkmenistan Ashgabat, 29 July 2009 – The EU-UNDP Central Asia Drug Action Programme (CADAP) handed over computer equipment to the Ministry of Health in Turkmenistan. The equipment will be used at the Information Centre of the Ministry.
Earlier in 2008 training facilities at the Information Center were established at the Ministry for which the EU-UNDP CADAP repaired rooms and delivered equipment and furniture. In 2008 the Turkmen Ministry of Health was one of the partners for implementing a national campaign to inform the general population of the risks of drug abuse and related HIV/AIDS infection. Other events during the national campaign in Turkmenistan featured seminars for school teachers, organization of sport competitions, children’s drawings contests and other events devoted to the International Day against Drugs earlier in June 2008. In addition, the website (http://www.saglykhm.gov.tm/) to promote healthy lifestyles free from drugs was created by CADAP. The total cost of the equipment was over $40,000. The overall objective of the EU-UNDP CADAP Programme is to foster a public health approach to drug demand and addiction, with an interdiction approach to drug supply in line with European Commission drug strategies. CADAP is funded by the European Union and implemented by UNDP. |
