Together Against Gender ViolenceAshgabat, 15 December 2009 – On 14th of November the public organization “Keik Okara” with financial support of the UNHCR Office in Turkmenistan carried out an action “Together Against Gender Violence”. The event was organized within the international campaign “16 Days Against Gender Violence”. The “16 Days of Activism Against Gender Violence Campaign” uses the 16 days between International Day For the Elimination of Violence Against Women (25 November) and International Human Rights Day (10 December) to reinforce that eliminating all forms of violence against women is a human rights issue and that the act of perpetrating violence against women is a human  rights violation.

The activity was designed and implemented by “Keik Okara” volunteers and gathered some 50 young people between 13 and 16 years. In addition, representatives of other non-governmental organizations such as “Lachin Ay”, “Agama”, YPeer, National Red Crescent Society took part in the activity. 

The activity, among other, included presentations on History and Development of Women’s Rights, Facts on violence against women, Myths and Realities on Gender Violence, role-plays, quizzes, reading poems and singing, etc. The presentations were supported with related video-films. Participants were highly interested and active. The participants were granted with T-shirts with logos «Вместе против насилия» (“Together Against Violence”) and acrylic paints.

At the end of the activity participants left their finger prints on a banner symbolizing their solidarity against gender violence.
